BRIEF HISTORY OF SERGIO OSMEÑA SR. HIGH SCHOOL

The SOSHS was established in 1964. It begun its  operation with 800 students and 27 teachers housed in an heirloom dilapidated wooden building along Roosevelt Ave. Quezon City. From then enrollment increased. And with the growing number of students Populace, small annexes were rented in scattered  Venues: the Bautista annex for Home Economics, the De Guzman annex for vocational classes, and the Polumbarit Compound annex for additional accommodation in Masambong, there were two annexes the Estaniel and the Lagonoy. Through the efforts of Mrs. Emilia E. Font, (and her teaching staff) the school principal from 164-19670, a permanent site of 3,375 sq. m. was acquired. This is now the     previous site to the present was a difficult as improving the new site. Through the concerted effort of Mrs. Font, her teachers, parents and students, a large portion of the creek bank was reclaimed; rip rapped to prevent erosion and was made secure to its clientele.
Miss. Teodora B. Almeyda, who ran the school for only a year, was responsible for further improvement of the SOSHS.
In 1972-1973 Mrs. Marcela Vigare,  school principal gave up all the annexes except the Masambong Annex. Luckily the barangay council of Masambong donated a 7,155 sq. m. lot along Capoas Street. On this site, the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber Commerce constructed a two room building called Filipino Chinese Friendship Building. This is part of Capoas annex. This was made possible through the able leadership of the following principals; Mr. Romeo A. San Juan (1976-1977).
Mrs. Virginia H. Cerrudo, (1977-1982) and Mr. Jose Aguilar, the kind hearted administrator in 1981-1989, they were the persons behind the steady progress and development of Sergio Osmeña Sr. High School.
Mr. Elisco R. Cabangon, The soft-spoken principal from 1989-1993,  could boast that his predecessors had contributed a lot for making a home for SOSHS as a prestigious  intuition of learning, rending quality education to the youth, which is its goal.
Mr. Alexander Vergara, the little giant of SOSHS after Cabangon’s term was indeed committed to follow footstep of this school’s godfather. He was dedicated and concern not only in terms of improving the physical plant, acquiring more buildings and developing students personality, talents and behaviors but more importantly inculcating in them the values of cleanliness and orderliness.
It was Dr. Jose Navarro who was able to request for additional building to house a great number of enrollees during school tear 199-2000. A 3-storey building with nine classrooms replaced the old administrative building; this was made possible through Cong. Reynaldo Calalay.
Mrs. Norma M. Arao took over as principal in the school year 2000-2006. Enrolment increased and the school excelled in various competitions. Priority projects of the school on the modernization and information technology materialized through Mrs. Arao. An air conditioner laboratory room with 20 unit’s computers, tables and chairs were donated by the ING Baring Inc. The turn-over ceremony was attended by city school officials and with Hon. Raul Roco the then Doped secretary, as guest speaker.
The 3 storey Osmeña Building was finally finished. The problem on room shortage was lessened with its completion. The open ground floor of the building had solved overcrowding of students in going in and out of the campus.
This school year 2006-2007, another dynamic and very understanding principal came in. Mrs. Felicisima F. Tañedo started the school year with school improvement projects in mind. Student’s safety is one of her major concerns in school. She initiated the installation of safety grills in all corridors of the 4storey Osmeña Building and repaired all grills in the corridors of the Mathay and Calalay Buildings.
Teacher’s faculty room with air conditioner, furnished with a TV set, teachers table and chair was finally constructed. Years of dreaming and waiting for it has ended, hence teachers already have a place to do other work concomitant to teaching.
This 20 unit headphones complete with chairs and cubicles, TV set And DVD player donated by Cong. Vincent Crisologo during the terms of Mrs. Arao was officially turned over to the school. The occasion was attended by the Congressman, Mrs.  Norma  Arao, Mrs. Felicisima F. Tañedo, present principal, a number of teachers and selected students.
The 4th floor of the Osmeña Building was finally completed through Mayor Sonny Belmonte. This had solved problem in room shortages. Even the main entrance (façade) of the school has undergone renovation. Thus, it had solved overcrowding of students in getting in and out of the school. The perimeter fence along Araneta Avenue had its rehabilitation too. Through the initiative of Hon. Vincent Crisologo and Victor Ferrer, a multi-purpose building and widening of the bridge were undertaken in SY 2007-2008.
